Upper west side by Elizabeth Castellanos

The Upper West Side is my favorite part of Manhattan because it contains a great mixture of people and a variety of ethnic groups. In addition to these diverse cultures, the Upper West Side is home to amazing architecture. There are many gothic structures throughout that seem to be straight out of a Hollywood picture. Brownstones are also a staple of the neighborhood giving the area yet another unique element.

Another wonderful aspect of the Upper West Side is its proximity to Central Park. It was during my early 20's that I first discovered how Central Park is truly the jewel of New York City. More than just park land, the Park is a gigantic outdoor haven right smack in the middle of the city. It runs two and a half miles long and is about 3 avenue's wide. Some attractions include the zoo, two skating rinks, a carrousel, Delacorte Theatre, Belvedere Castle, horse-drawn carriages, and a lake where one can rent a rowboat and explore. It's literally fun for the whole family! There are also free concerts in the park throughout the year.

The Upper West Side also has significant cultural value. Places like the world-famous Lincoln Center, Museum of Natural History, and the Hayden Planetarium are often frequented by residents of the neighborhood and tourists alike. The AMC movie theatre & the Beacon are great entertainment hotspots as well. Shopping is also a big draw. And let's not forget the numerous outdoor restaurants, eateries, bakeries, bistros, and gourmet shops littered throughout. Any kind of food or dish you desire is only a stone's throw away when you're in the Upper West Side. Public transportation is accessible through the "1," and "B/C" lines, which connect you to the rest of the city. For those with deeper pockets have no fear… yellow cabs are the Upper West Side's best friend as they are quite easy to hail.

Given all of the wonderful things I've been mentioning, you can see why Upper West Side apartments tend to be on the pricey side. Many of them are pre-war and have a classic old-time feel, which is one of my favorite characteristics. However, more and more new condo buildings have been springing up throughout the years. One can still find apartments at affordable prices and of course it's dependent on individual buildings and amenities offered (if any). Apartments can range from a conservatively-sized studio layout without a view, to a spacious one-bedroom with a fire place. You might even strike oil and find a generously-sized apartment with a gorgeous view for a fair price. If you are interested in finding the right Upper West Side apartment please contact me directly.
